Simple Reminders
Peppermint Oil
Peppermint oil has a great stimulating effect, meaning it wakes you up. It also acts as an anti-spasmatic, which relaxes your intestines and can cause some relief.
However, be careful with peppermint oil as it can also exacerbate heartburn. Peppermint oil is virtually harmless if used correctly.
If you have an upset stomach, combine a teaspoon of carrier oil with 2-3 drops of peppermint oil and rub it on your abdomen. If you add peppermint oil to a tissue, the smell will last for quite a while.
This is the best suggestion for people who experience nausea, motion sickness, and want to relieve nausea and indigestion using essential oils.
Ginger Essential Oil
The brand, Gravol, also makes medication that reduces motion sickness using just ginger. The scientific benefits of ginger and its effect on motion sickness, travel sickness, and indigestion have been studied for many years.
Ginger is found to be an excellent, natural remedy, without the side effects of some of the other motion sickness medications.
Ginger oil can be use in much the same manner as peppermint oil. There is also some research showing that ginger can help lessen the pain associated with arthritis. If you’re experiencing nausea throughout the day, diffuse ginger oil in a diffuser.
You can also combine 2-3 drops of ginger oil with a teaspoon of carrier oil and rub it right on your abdomen.
Essential oils permeate your skin and can actually enter your bloodstream very quickly, so the benefits can be felt almost instantly.
Fennel Oil
Fennel oil has also traditionally been use for stomach issues. It has a nice licorice-like smell. You can apply fennel oil to the bottoms of your feet, massage it on your abdomen, drop a couple of drops in your hand and smell it directly from your hands, or you can also dilute 2-3 drops with a carrier oil.
If you’re buying high-quality oil, one drop can already be potent. Remember not to overuse essential oils, especially if you’re buying high-quality oil.
Fennel oil has some great properties; it’s antiseptic, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, and anti-spasmatic. Fennel oil also has a carminative nature, which means it helps prevent and relieve flatulence.
Here are some additional essential oils that can help reduce nausea and indigestion:
- Spearmint Essential Oil

Frequently Asked Questions:
Question: What is a carrier oil? – C. Neuberger Mildner
Answer: Carrier oil is an oil that has no therapeutic benefit. It is simply a regular oil use to dilute essential oils so they're not as strong when applied to your skin.
Question: Can you put essential oils with Carrier oil on the bottom of the feet vs. putting on the location of a problem, i.e. stomach? – C. Kutyna
Answer: Yes you can. You can put essential oils with carrier oil at the bottom of your feet. The bottoms of your feet are one of the best places to apply essential oils because they have the second-largest pores in your body. This allows the oil to enter your system quickly.
