With so many restrictions surrounding air travel, many people have questions about traveling with essential oils. It's best to use 5-15 milliliter bottles that are then stored in one clear plastic container or bag.
All of the liquids need to be less than 100 milliliters, with a grand total of less than 1 liter of liquids. Below we have shared some recommended essential oils for your next trip.
1. Lavender
Lavender Oil is a great oil to take with you when traveling, as this is considered the ‘Swiss Army Knife' of essential oils.
For example, Lavender is great for reducing any anxiety or stress you may be experiencing by activating the parasympathetic nervous system.
You can simply inhale it or apply a few drops on a cotton ball and stick it in the vents of your car or next to your head when you are sleeping.
You can also apply one or two drops to the palms of your hands, rub your hands together and inhale deeply.
Lavender can also be used to treat sunburns. Combine 2 to 3 drops of Lavender with approximately 1 tablespoon of carrier oil and apply it to your burn.
By the next day, the inflammation should be down. If you are traveling are experiencing insomnia, diffuse Lavender in your hotel room to help you sleep.
2. Frankincense
Frankincense has a multitude of uses and benefits, including being quite calming is also very good for your skin and reducing inflammation.
To soothe sore muscles from vacation activities, mix Frankincense with a carrier oil and apply it to the affected area. It is also good for reducing headaches, lowering stress, and discharging toxins from the liver and the kidneys.
Add a few drops to a shot glass of juice or a teaspoon of honey as a makeshift holiday hangover remedy.
3. Peppermint
Peppermint is one of the best essential oils for treating nausea and motion sickness, making it ideal for travel. You can apply a few drops to your palms, rub your hands together and inhale it deeply even before leaving on your trip.
Peppermint is also great for treating headaches. You can apply it directly to your temples, but we highly recommend combining it with a carrier oil to reduce the risk of burning your skin.
You can also apply it to the base of your skull, right at the top of your neck.
Peppermint is also great for minimizing hot flushes. Add a couple of drops of peppermint into a spritz bottle and spritz yourself to keep yourself cool.
Keep in mind water and oil don’t mix, so add a bit of alcohol to the water too.
4. Thieves
We also recommend a blend specific to Young Living, called Thieves. It is a blend that includes cloves, lemon, cinnamon, eucalyptus radiata, and rosemary.
It is an immune booster, so you can use it to reduce inflammation and to ward off germs. If you are stuck in an airplane with others, it might be a good idea to use an immune-boosting oil.
