Our guest today is Dr. Richard Ruhling, author of several books including Health, Happiness & Destiny. He taught health sciences at Loma Linda University for many decades and as a medical practitioner, he has very strong views on the healthcare system in the US currently. Dr. Richard Ruhling, welcome to the Lifelong Wellness podcast. How are you doing today?
Richard: I'm doing fine, Wes. So good to be with you.
Host: Dr. Ruhling, you have a wonderful career and resume. It's very long. You've written many books which we’ve, you know, talked about in the introduction. You've taught as well at Loma Linda and we have a lot of theories about healthcare right now and we want to talk to you about that, but I would like to find out a little bit more about you. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Richard: Well, when I was a small child I told my dad I wanted to be what he was, but why wasn't he a fireman. I thought that would be exciting.
Host: Right. (laughing)
Richard: He laughed. He was a doctor and later I learned that would be okay to be a doctor, too. (laughing) I took medicine. I actually…My college chose a person to go to some foreign country like, it was a Bible college, and I was a student missionary for one summer to Columbia and Venezuela and it made me want to be a missionary. And so when I went to medical school, that was the plan and I later accepted an opportunity, but it didn't work out to go to Africa. The Dean liked me, though, and he said, “If you'll take some further training, you can come back and teach and train other missionaries” and that appealed to me. I took internal medicine. I had a year of cardiology, a fellowship, and then came back and taught health science at Loma Linda for a number of years. Really a rich experience. I’ll leave at that or I can tell you more.
Host: We’d love to know more. You are an expert in health and that's what we want to talk about because everyone is always concerned about their health, about their well-being. You know, physical, mental, spiritual even, and we’re talking to the right person. And when it comes to healthcare, like right now in the US, it is election time and it is one of the most important, you know, talking points of every candidate for every political race right now. And that is healthcare in the United States, it's very very important. It's a hot topic as well. Now, to you personally, what does living a life with health and wellness mean to you?
Richard: Well, it means everything in a sense. I mean, you know, I have a Christian faith and that means everything, too. But the interesting thing in the Bible, the Savior's name, Yeshua, means health and safety as well as salvation. And if we do health right, you know, life is a function of health. If you don't have health, life is going, you know, and so they’re integrally related. And the people that are not interested in their health are not going to be around as long as the people who take care of it and that's what brings me to an important realization. While I was teaching in the mid-70s, this is now 47, 45 years ago, the Dean came to me one day, and he was brilliant. He had three Doctorate degrees, including a Doctorate of Health from Harvard. And he said, “You know, they're starting to call medical care, healthcare”.
Host: Right.
Richard: Like it did not compute. I mean, you know, basically… And he had been the chairman of the Pharmacology Department. He knew the drugs were not healthy, okay? Basically, and it’s what we do, what we eat, exercise and other health habits – that is real healthcare, not seeing the doctor. Healthcare, you can pay the insurance company thousands of dollars and you can see your doctor asking for prescriptions. Not healthcare, not healthcare. Actually prescription drugs are a leading cause of death. I have the medical literature to prove it and a website. I have the medical literature to prove it and a website also leadingcauseofdeathprescriptiondrugs.com. And I can just summarize it real quick. In 1998, on tax day for America at April 15, 1998, the Journal of the American Medical Association reported 106,000 deaths in hospitals from adverse drug reactions. The definition is not an overdose, not malpractice, bad prescription. It’s the right prescription, but some people just react to that pill for some reason. And it said that was the 4th to 6th leading cause of death at that time.
Host: Wow.
Richard: But two years later the Western Journal reported 199,000 outside the hospital. The first study was in hospitals, the second study’s outside the hospital, add them together is 305,000. Medical care is the number three cause of death in America. Then in 2007, they reported on a seven-year study from 1998 to 2005 and it said the serious events and deaths increased 2.6, 2.7 fold. So if you multiply 305,000 by 2.7 you have 824,000. Medical care is number one. It’s the leading cause of death in America and not mentioned at all by the CDC. They’re in bed with the drug companies and they make their money from drugs and prescriptions and see your doctor and they’re a bunch of liars, etc. And not only on not reporting it, they don't even mention they’re leading on Top 10. If you go to the Top 10 causes of death on the CDC, medical here is not even mentioned. Hello? (laughing) Whereas, the medical literature shows and prove it.
Host: Now there is awareness. You know that there’s an opioid crisis in America.
Richard: Yes.
Host: And it's been going on for several years, but still there's inaction and inactivity. Okay. I have got a ton of questions for you, Dr. Ruhling. So, I’m going try to space them out and give you a breather between each one because I’ve got so many questions now for you.
Richard: Okay, go.
Host: So what you're trying to say is the best kind of healthcare is not going to the doctor. So making sure in our lives that we’re healthy enough not to visit the doctors. Is that right?
Richard: That's correct and I'm 78 going on 79 and I've had one prescription in the last 50, 60 years.
Host: Wow! How did you manage that?
Richard: Well, I was on a trip and had bad gastroenteritis. I didn’t want to stop at every gas station for the toilet so I took a prescription. That's how I got the one prescription.
Host: So how did you manage to stay healthy for so long?
Richard: Well, in college I changed my diet and by the way, I have a DVD that will help your people also. It’s a documentary titled, Eating, and they can see it on my website where they can…
Host: What is the website?
Richard: Okay. Actually, I have two websites and they both have the DVD and I have two books and either one choice of two books. It's healthhappinessdestiny.com. It’s the first one. It has five-star reviews. My most, in fact, my only five-star reviews by including a top Amazon viewer, Dr. Grady Hart, MD, who gave it five stars. And the other website has a different book called, The Fall of America, and we’re beginning to see that happen in this country, too, with the way things are going. Ultimately to go under the UN but lose our sovereignty, which I don't think is a good choice but that's what everybody wants, you know, Big Brother to watch over and take care of them and see the doctor when you get sick.
Host: So how did you change your diet in College to give you a healthy life?
Richard: Well, I became convinced that a vegetarian diet would be better for me. I grew up frying my own hamburgers and eggs and things like that and, you know, but I was also sick almost every other winter. I'd get a shot of penicillin from my dad but since I made those changes, I've had excellent health. We have a hill behind us where I live in Arizona. My wife and I can jog up to the top, it’s not that far but, you know, at 79 I’m happy to jog at all. (laughing)
Host: Wow! Dr. Ruhling that is fantastic. You’re still jogging, you’re close to 80 years old. You know, that is fantastic. So are you a complete vegetarian, 100% or do you have a hamburger once a month?
Richard: Well, I haven't had any red meat in years, but my wife does have fish occasionally. You know, for breakfast an occasional egg type of thing. She has a milk allergy so we don't do dairy but that's anyway, you know.
Host: So do you recommend people, you know, eat like you do to have a long and healthy life?
Richard: Well, let me tell you that two years ago I went to my medical school for alumni meetings and they had Dr. Colin Campbell from Cornell University who wrote the book, The China Study. He collaborated with Oxford University and he came from a dairy farm and was told that good milk protein would be great, but he was sad to find that casein turned the cancer on and off if you left it off your diet. So we really weren't meant to nurse the cow through life, you know, etc. I’ve grown up cow to another cow I would have get kicked but we…It’s a nutritious food but is not necessarily the best.
Host: Okay, so milk is also a no-no for you.
Richard: That’s right. I haven’t drunk plain milk in a long time. I have enjoyed cheese a little bit occasionally but it’s not a regular thing by any means.
Host: Okay. Now, getting back to all those questions that came out that first statement that you made, and that is that medication and prescriptions are a leading cause of death. And of course there is awareness of the opioid crisis going on right now. So what happens when, you know, a doctor prescribes something and it is a cause of death? What are the issues? Is it…?
Richard: I can give you a first-hand example when my wife got a bladder infection and saw her doctor.
Host: Right.
Richard: And he prescribed a medication called Cipro which I could tell you a lot about, but anyway. In two or three days she was well, but months later she developed spots on her skin. She went back to her doctor who did a blood test and received a call urgently the next morning to refer her to a hematologist who did a bone marrow test. Explain that to me. I was thinking maybe the spleen was the cause of her low platelets in her blood, but he treated her with high steroids, Gamma globulin, multiple transfusions, in and out of hospitals until she died of stroke.
Host: Oh. That is terrible.
Richard: Yes. You always think it’s going to happen to the other guy, but surprise. So I have a real life story message and I went through, by the way, to the U.S. Congress, not Congress but just a Senate, Senate offices in Washington DC with medical literature to prove what I'm saying until one Senator said, “You know, you're wasting your time. They own us”. Speaking of donations that the drug companies make to their re-election.
Host: That is true, that is very true. There are hundreds of millions of dollars that are given in campaign contributions, and if you take a look at pictures and many documentaries have been made about how pharmaceutical companies and, of course, it's with every industry, and we’re talking about healthcare, that they get people on board and, you know, get their medicine and their things out to the public that they want to make money, of course.
Richard: I like to, suddenly it comes to mind the idea that it's amazing that the Bible is actually ahead of us today though written thousands of years ago.
Host: How is that?
Richard: The first reference is in Genesis 50, Chapter 50, where Israel or Jacob’s father died. He tells the physicians to embalm his father, embalm. In other words, the physician’s busy embalming. That make the link between their job and death basically. You know, that’s a soft link. Christ told the story and I think it's John 5 or 6, can't remember which chapter, in a pool of Bethesda in which people sat around and thought that when the water was troubled, the first person in will get healed. It was kind of a myth that an angel troubled the water but healing might occur. Christ sees this one guy that been there for years, had been unable to walk or what but he was right by the edge, I guess, and he healed him. But think of it now, a pool of Bethesda with a myth of healing and today we have Bethesda, Maryland as the home of NIH, National Institutes of Health is in Bethesda, Maryland. Appropriate name for that myth because people want…they appropriate drug research. Millions of dollars are spent in research drugs and allow this project to go forward or that baloney. And the thing is that from time to time we hear the water is troubled, there's a stampede like in Bible times to get into the pool, you know, get the drug and the later disappointment or people get trampled by the stampede so a lot of parallel with that. And the final reference I might get from the Bible is in the last book of the Bible, Revelation 18th chapter, a call out of Babylon, a word that means confusion. And I believe that the main systems of America, health, education gets a failing grade, government is failing and religions are failing in my opinion so that we end up…And that chapter is calling people out of Babylon come out that you be not partakers over sins, receiver not over plagues. Next-to-last verses provide her sorceries is a bad translation. The word in Greek is pharmakeia. Pharmakeia are all nations deceived and basically that's true. Health is not have anything to do and they’re actually inversely related. Now, the more prescriptions you take, the worse your health will become from the adverse drug reactions and sooner or later is a slippery slope and then things can go down and happen fast.
Host: I trust medical professionals and I trust my doctor to, you know, if I'm feeling ill, if I have a problem with my ear, which sometimes I do. You know, I have a eustachian tube which gets blocked from time to time so I have a doctor take a look at it. Usually we don’t have to do anything, you know, it goes away on its own. Doctors are good that way but I trust my medical professional.
Richard: Good. Let me tell you this.
Host: Yes.
Richard: My dad was a doctor and taught gastroenterology at St. Louis University to medical residents. He told me when I was about 10 that about 85% of his people would get well, no matter what he did.
Host: Really. It’s like a placebo effect.
Richard: Well, maybe, or the body deals with it in time. It knows how to cope and so on or people find out the cause. When I was teaching at Loma Linda I developed headaches, could not figure out the cause, went to a neurologist across the campus and said, “Is anything I'm eating or drinking causing my headaches?” He said that would be very rare for my type of headache, which was not a migraine.
Host: Okay.
Richard: Well, I later learned he didn’t know what he was talking about. When I left the University, I went into practice with five other doctors. One was an allergist and I saw people coming hundreds of miles to see him. The parking lot was usually filled for him and so I said, “How many people with headaches do you help?”, he said, “Oh, about 9/10”.
Host: Wow!
Richard: So I said, “Test me”. So he tested me and I would not have believed it but I was allergic to wheat, gluten, some peanut butter and so on but I was overdoing it. I love those things, abused them probably and have become allergic. And it wasn't like, well I eat a sandwich and get a headache. It didn't happen that way. It’s kind of like if you, for example, everybody knows tobacco is a poison, but people don’t get sick when they smoke.
Host: Right.
Richard: They get sick when they don't smoke. If they try to go through withdrawal, the withdrawal brings the symptoms days later, okay? And so it was with my headaches that I would take sandwiches every day to work, but on the weekend work outside in fresh air, sunshine, and but not so much wheat. My wife would say, “Oh, you get bread everyday. We’re having something different”. And every Monday morning was a headache for me and I could not figure it out.
Host: Wow. Okay. So when you were diagnosed as gluten intolerant, you gave up wheat and gluten and your headaches went away?
Richard: Exactly. Exactly. And I can eat it once a week now and it's not a problem, but if you try to do it daily, that gets to be a problem.
Host: So the cause of our problems might not be, you know, what we think they are. Meaning, we might not need an Advil or Tylenol for headache. We may want to change our diet.
Richard: Exactly.
Host: So the process you went through was you went to a medical professional who diagnosed you and figured out what the actual problem was.
Richard: But also this, and that is that he was not a standard. He was an MD. He’d been graduated from the same medical school I had but he had gone to a side-stream called the American Academy of Environmental Medicine, and they are not regular allergists. They also see how…They were a cut above most allergists is what I'm saying. Some allergists would not identify that. Okay.
Host: So they were ahead of the curve. They were doing something, they’re a little bit different.
Richard: Yes.
Host: Bethesda, Maryland that’s such an interesting name. That's the city where a very famous gaming company, which was actually bought by Microsoft last week for billions, about 87 ½ billion dollars. Bethesda games is also based out of Bethesda, Maryland and they have some wonderful video games that I love playing. My favorites, in fact. The Elder Scrolls, Skyrim. You probably haven't heard about these. You probably don't know about these Fallout. They actually came out with the 86 classic at Wolfenstein. So Bethesda has a great history with the, you mention…(laughing)
Richard: Video games as well.
Host: Video games as well and medicine as well.
Richard: Let me, if I may, before we finish here, mention the other website that I have. I mentioned the healthhappinessdestiny.com, but I have a book thefallofamerica.blog and it also shows how we’re missing it. It has health information, which is the focus on this interview. And so either one of those books plus a DVD which…I sat across from a guy who lost his eye to diabetes. When I was at an alumni meeting back in Washington DC where I went to college.
Host: Yes.
Richard: And he got off of his medication drugs and his neuropathy was getting better after watching this DVD. And so to me is priceless DVD was showing how to reverse most diseases and that it would be worth not just $10, which is what it is for sale on Amazon, plus $4 shipping, but for a $10 donation to my nonprofit, they get the DVD and the book and actually a second book, What’s Behind the New World Order. Not good. People in global government, UN is not having our best interest really overall and what's behind it. That's the title, what's behind the new world order. So, thank you.
Host: Why don't they have our best interest at heart?
Richard: Well, just look at what the UN is doing overall. How big of an impact it had and I’ll give you an example. Specifically, 25 years ago when a million Protestant tutees were slaughtered in Rwanda and the UN had enough vehicles on the streets of Kigali they could have easily stopped the genocide. But they were just ordered to stand out and let the local government handle it. the local government was Catholic. Pope later said sorry but, you know, not good at all. And so I’m a Protestant and America was founded by Protestants but there been so many immigrations coming from the south, totally things are changing in America. And since Roe V. Wade in 1973, we’re on the downhill and getting there fast.
Host: When it comes to large-scale destruction and, you know, mass genocide, it's happened after the formation of the UN. It was of course formed to stop these kind of things but it's happening currently. Right now as we speak in Rohingya and Bangladesh where hundreds of thousands of people are being killed because of their faith. It happened in the Kosovo where we saw concentration camps in the 90s and, you know, right before in the 2000s, in the 90s.
Richard: Yes.
Host: And where CNN and Fox and, you know, Bloomberg could report all this and we saw it happening, unfold right in front of our very eyes. And of course governments, organizations, the inaction, you know, cause a lot of lives. Yes.
Richard: Paralysis of the analysis.
Host: That's what it is. We’ve seen what was going on but nobody was willing to do anything about it until, you know, four years later, something happened or that's what usually happens. It’s happening right now, in fact. But let's talk more about healthcare. When you write your blog, The Fall of America, is that about healthcare?
Richard: The book is really, I got about 40 pages on health but it’s more than that and it shows…I have, for example, the interesting claim to fame, predicting war with Iraq before 9/11. Now, 9/11 got us into war with it, but before that came along, based on the Bible prophecy of Daniel 8 where there's a goat political cartoon representing Western powers that smack the ram in the Middle East and broke its horn. The horns were the horns of Media and Persia. And the Bible says that, Verse 20 Daniel 820, Medias and Persians but today you say Iraq and Iran. And Gabriel tells Daniel this mission is at the time of the end. And so we've done Iraq and I'm sure that we are going to go to war against Iran and I don't think this year or next but I believe where our time is short.
Host: If you take a look at political events, it's very close. A lot of things happen or are happening there. You're absolutely right. So let’s get back to healthcare and living well. In your book and your DVD and your video you explain how, you know, if you're not getting better by seeing a doctor how you can get better if you have a certain ailment. And I'm sure it's different for different things, right? What do you explain in your book, in your DVD about living healthier without taking medication?
Richard: Well, one of the overlooked things and I'm glad you said without taking medication because really my favorite author refers to the remedies of nature and they’re remembered by an acronym NEW START. N stands for nutrition, E for exercise, W for water, S for sunlight, T for temperance, which might also be explained as avoiding harmful things. You know, tobacco, prescription drugs would be a thing to avoid as much as possible, in my opinion, etc., alcohol. Amazingly, even in the past 24 hours I saw a website on how coffee is okay but I can give you a dozen things coffee can do to you starting at the top of the body, the brain. It helps us stay awake but also at nighttime when you want to sleep, okay? (laughing) Too much coffee makes a nerve problem and I’ve seen lots of people in the office who wanted something for their nerves. When you ask them how much coffee they drink, “Well yes, it stimulates the nerves”. And so cut out the stimulant and you don't need something for the nerves.
Host: Right.
Richard: Exercise will help the nerves as well.
Host: Okay.
Richard: The E in NEW START. Okay. But anyway, New England Journal of Medicine is a leading medical journal and back in 1981, there was a lead article that linked cancer of the pancreas to coffee drinking, not to tobacco or alcohol but to coffee drinking. So interesting fact. And osteoporosis, trouble with the stomach. My daughter got breast lumps when she was drinking Coke at the hospital because caffeine can do that and they went away when she quit drinking the Coke. They won't allow coffee in the coronary care unit because it can trigger a fatal labor apnea.
Host: Really?
Richard: Yes. That’s correct.
Host: So, caffeine is no good, basically.
Richard: Correct. It’s a drug. But for people who smoke, they need it because Nicotine is also in the opposite direction. It depresses the nerve. So together they keep you in balance if you’re going to quit smoking. I have a mayor in a Southwest city in Missouri tell me, “Doc, I tried many times to quit. But this is the easiest, and it was without caffeine at the same time. If you drink caffeine, your nerves are crying out for a smoke and you can't quit”. So Pavlov call it a bad habit glue. Coffee is bad habit glue. So it glues your bad habits together that people wouldn't be able to get their act together if they live horribly and couldn’t drink coffee in the morning.
Host: What other things would you dissuade people from using?
Richard: Well, TV. (laughing)
Host: Okay.
Richard: But as far as substances go, basically I was taught and I had more nutrition than most doctors because I took public health courses in nutrition. The fruits and vegetables are known as the protective foods. They have more vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and things like that, flavonoids in the food. The orange, you know, people in America like some do not eat fruit. They drink it. Orange juice. (laughing)
Host: Right.
Richard: But really, fruits are wonderful. I just had a breakfast where the…I have a dozen different kinds of fruit, basically. And along with toast and peanut butter and things like that.
Host: And again you have lived a vegetarian lifestyle since you were in college and that's helped you jog up the hill at the age of 79.
Richard: Yes.
Host: That is fantastic. We talk about a lot of things that, you know, people should be changing in their diets. We haven't spoken about caffeine. We have spoken about addiction, nicotine, of course. We understand, we realize that these chemicals are bad for us but addiction can be much stronger or harder to let go of than the knowledge that we have that is detrimental to our health. Also, when it comes to your proponent of, you know, prescription medicine causing more problems than it solves. Am I correct?
Richard: Yes, I believe that and I've done well without it. I believe if the person wants to quit things, just do it cold turkey. Also, don't try to taper. People very unsuccessful try to taper off cigarettes. You know, it's better to cut it out cold and sweat it out for a couple to three days. I helped at the University of Arizona with a five-day plan and on the fifth night, over 100 people have not smoked in the previous 24 hours. Very successful and that includes the idea of don't use… By the way, the alcohol is a no-no when you're trying to quit. It’s very difficult if you’re using alcohol. It affects your frontal lobes on your brain and your choice center. Your ‘what's right and wrong'. People are getting confused when they drink alcohol or caffeine, basically. So, getting exercise is a substitute. When you crave a smoke, go out for a walk, drink some water, take some deep breaths. You think of them as lung exercises, you know, and burn your bridges. Don't have the tobacco around in case you need one because you will need it. I had a neighbor that almost quit but he had some cigarette somewhere in the car when he was craving it and ended up not making…
Host: Going back to the bad habits.
Richard: Yes.
Host: I have not spoken to anyone about alcohol in our last year on this podcast. Why do you say that we shouldn’t be consuming alcohol?
Richard: Well, good question. From the mid-70s reported that his program got 85% of people off blood pressure medicine and diabetic medicine and that it included no alcohol. Alcohol makes the blood sticky. The red blood cells will come together, they called it Rouleaux formation, and so you need more blood pressure to circulate your blood when you're drinking.
Host: I see.
Richard: But my main issue is not the blood pressure, but what it does to the brain and there's a professor of medical science at the University of, I think it was of South Carolina, Dr. Knisley. K-N-I-S-L-E-Y. When I give my health programs to corporations and companies, he could in this film detect who, which college students had one or two drinks the night before. By looking at the blood vessels of their eyes. And he identified which ones did and didn't drink because of the clotting in the blood vessels in the eye. But if it clots the blood vessels in the eye, it can pop the blood vessels of the brain also, if you follow what I'm saying.
Host: Of course.
Richard: So you can lose millions of brain cells. You got billions of brain cells. You can lose a lot and not even know you’re losing it. If you understand what I'm saying. People don't know they’re becoming Alzheimer’s. They think everything is okay, etc.
Host: I did not know that. This is new information to me. I did not know that alcohol caused these problems but alcohol is, you know, the number one thing around the world. It's a very, it's a normal part of our lives.
Richard: Well, you think of it this way and in fact, some people argue for it in the Bible because of wine, but there was no separate message for grape seeds.
Host: Right.
Richard: But I don't believe that the communion wine is fermented. Think of it as alcohol is really the excrete of the germs or the bacteria. So why would I want to drink germ excrete, you know.
Host: Now, you put it that way, that is just gross. (laughing)
Richard: You’re a cut above most people that I’ve interviewed with. I tell you this. You’re pretty sharp from the video games in Bethesda to elsewhere. God bless you. (laughing).
Host: All right. So again we fall back to the health being decided by what we eat. I think this is the strongest message I'm getting from you, Dr. Ruhling. So is the cure for any of our ailments, I feel tired these days. I think I know why. I’m slightly overweight. Slightly being, you know, very generous term I’m using for myself. But, you know, and I stopped exercising a couple weeks ago. I know I need to get back into the exercise routine but does nature, can nature solve my problems, my medical ailments rather than, you know, medicine?
Richard: I don't know. I'm thinking that sometimes I have that experience that you’ve had when I was selling books in the summer and it was hot that night that made the blood sticky. So eating less, maybe, of high fat foods might be worth a try for you.
Host: Yes. So just lower fat, just healthier basically.
Richard: Sometimes you can do something. It helps to completely, not cut down a little bit but drop it out and see if there's a significant difference. Because changing or modifying a little bit…What you ate today is in your body for a couple days anyway. So give it a several day trial or about five days, you know, and see how you are at the end of that time.
Host: Okay. So how did we start eating so unhealthily, you know, it's the year 2020 now. How did we get to this point?
Richard: Well, it’s gradualism. You know, it didn't happen overnight and we kind of try something and we like it. Things that are pleasing about sweets and rich foods are always more appealing to us. And when we’re young we don't notice a difference so much. It’s only after a year sometimes that we are impacted by those things. But the good news is, you know, it’s a matter of choice. We chose to eat those things, we can choose to do differently and if we repent I think God made the body as an object lesson. The body will forgive us if we repent and do something different. Just like God forgives us if we repent and do things differently.
Host: Okay. So, how can we repent to get our bodies better? (laughing)
Richard: Well, I would say another tip for people that have obesity or a weight problem is, and I discovered this in medical school because I would get up at 4 AM to study and read and classes will start at seven. At noon I was tired, wiped out. I would take a nap before lunch. And if I ate supper in the evening, I was so wiped out. I didn't have enough battery energy in my brain to study hardly, I would fall asleep.
Host: Right.
Richard: So I found not eating supper did better for me scholastically and I could stay alert till eight or nine, go out for a walk. But I also found that if I went out for a jog, that I was losing weight and getting skinny when I didn’t want to lose more weight. So I would say for people on weight loss, eat two meals a day. Most of them starve themselves and eat the big meal at night when they should not. That's when you store your calories and once they're stored they’re harder to get rid of. If you eat a good breakfast and a good early afternoon meal, you don’t need to eat again at 5 o'clock and you're okay.
Host: Okay. You are a religious man and I have witnessed and I have seen and we talked about this in a podcast as well and I've had these discussions. We haven't discussed this prior so this question might come out of left field, but is there healing in the power of prayer or religion? Because I've heard in many instances, in many cases where people have been ill and sick and they have just through the power of prayer or their belief they have gotten better.
Richard: Yes, I believe so. And I don't put that upfront. I believe that God gives us natural choices and He prefers to remain anonymous. Basically, if we make good choices. Einstein said God is not a magician. He's a scientist. He works in harmony with science and good science in the body and physiology we can do better. But sometimes you’re really up against it. You know, the cancer is spreading, whatever, and not everybody makes the right choices. It's okay to believe in God and even if you die, you know, Job said, “Though he slay me, I trust Him”. But if we trust Him, sometimes God is, His advantage also to heal us allow the force. The body is designed for healing. Just like cuts, burns and bruises will heal by themselves, the body is trying to fight the cancer. And if you do it right, I think a whole food, vegan type of diet, raw maybe with seeds and sprouts and things like that is the best choice to work in harmony with prayer.
Host: This is a message, this is our 53rd episode, I believe, and this is a message that every health professional that we have spoken to has given us. And although every professional gives us that message, if everyone just understood that and took that, everyone would be healthier and much much better off. Dr. Ruhling, you give us your precious time today and you talked about your books and your DVDs. Could you once again tell us where we can get in touch with you and where we can find your books and DVD if we want to get them?
Richard: God bless you. I appreciate that. Two websites. The first one and the book title is healthhappinessdestiny.com and it offers…That book which has five-star reviews on Amazon only. And here comes with another book, What’s Behind the New World Order, and a DVD for a $10 donation mailed in the US. Maybe add a couple dollars for Canada, extra postage, whatever, but anyway. And then the other DVD or the other book is the thefallofamerica.blog. A different book but also the DVD and the same after book, What’s Behind the New World Order. Thank you for sharing that people can take a look. People, you know, they go out and spend $10 for a pizza or something. Why not get something that will actually help undo the pizza damage and it's a meal for your mind better than for your body.
Host: Absolutely. Dr. Ruhling, thank you so much for being on a Lifelong Wellness podcast today.
Richard: Thank you, Wes. Good to be with you. I’ll be glad to do it anytime.
