How to choose an essential oil brand:
When you go to your health food store or talk with your local direct sales associates, determine if the essential oil being sold is actually pure. Essential oils purchased from a health food store might say they are 100% pure lavender oil.
But upon further investigation with the company, the product is actually 100% pure lavender combined with a carrier oil.
This obviously is misrepresent on the bottle. Make sure you get 100% pure essential oil in your essential oil purchase unless it is a ‘blend' that sometimes requires a carrier oil.
You might also want to consider whether or not the oil is organic. A lot of people don’t care about organic labeling, and that is okay.
Many companies actually provide an organic product or something that is close to organic but isn't labeled ‘organic' because of the extra cost for this labeling.
You may have already come across small producers of essential oils or farming goods that are actually organic, but they won’t label it officially because they can’t afford the certification.
When determining if these essential oils are organic, it is important to verify whether the vendor is the producer of the oil, or are they buying from someone else and this is a second or third-hand operation.
It is also important to ascertain whether this oil is actually what you need. You might go to the store, smell some essential oils, and decide you want to buy them because they smell good. But, these oils might not be what you need.

Online Question:
Question: How do we know if a salesperson is lying about carrier oil? – Teresa
Answer: The best thing to do is to call the company directly. Most of the time, if a company actually has its own farm where they grow the product and distill it themselves, you can be pretty guaranteed that their essential oil is going to be of high quality. Essential oils that come from Europe are also of high quality. Europe has been using essential oils a lot longer than North America has been, and their essential oils are of better quality.
Question: Are there any other good Essential Oil brands that are cheaper than Young Living and doTerra? – Sarah
Answer: Pricing of essential oils should be individually based. If you go to a store and you see essential oils all priced the same, that’s not normal and we don’t recommend you take those internally. Each essential oil requires a different amount of raw materials to make that oil, and each raw material costs a different amount to purchase. There is a company in Canada called Saje. You can buy some of their essential oils at a cheaper price than Young Living and doTerra. You can also purchase some oils at health food stores.
